Acupuncture

According to traditional Chinese Medicine, the body contains a delicate balance of two opposing and inseparable forces: yin and yang. Yin represents the cold, slow or passive principle. Yang represents the hot, excited or active principle. Health is achieved by balancing both. Disease comes from an imbalance that leads to a blockage in the flow of qi—the vital energy or life force thought to regulate your spiritual, emotional, mental and physical health. Acupuncture is intended to remove blockages in the flow of qi and restore and maintain health.

Fine needles are inserted at certain sites in the body for therapeutic or preventative purposes.

The needles used are fine and are usually a few centimetres long. They should be single-use, pre-sterilised needles that are disposed of immediately after use. Once the needles are in place, they may be left in position for a length of time lasting from a few minutes up to around 30 minutes.

If you have a bleeding disorder, such as haemophilia, or are taking anticoagulants, talk to your GP before you have acupuncture. If you're pregnant I do not recommend acupuncture before 12 weeks of pregnancy.
